Tips and tricks to grow a stunning Hydrangea!

From its real name Hydrangea macrophylla, this beautiful shrub does wonders at the foot of a wall, on a balcony or in flowerbeds. But what to do if you want to keep it for a long time in your garden?

Plant your hydrangea well!
Plant it preferably in the early fall (September/October), when temperatures are still mild. It is essential to choose heather soil (acidic soils with little limestone), so that your hydrangea makes large flowers and develops properly. It is preferable to place your plant in a semi-shaded place, and to respect a distance of 80 cm to 1 m between each one of them.

Water it frequently!
The hydrangea flourishes by the sea, it loves humidity! If your plant is in the ground in your garden, do not hesitate to water it regularly. Rainwater is preferable as it does not contain limestone. Protect your hydrangeas during winter periods; you can wrap the stump with dead leaves if you live in cold regions. Prefer mulching, a process that consists of covering the soil with materials of vegetable or mineral origin, in order to limit evaporation and the growth of weeds.

Maintain it!
Adding fertilizer is recommended if you want to have beautiful flowers. Distribute once a year (in the spring) a fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potash, such as bone meal, to allow the stems to retain their natural rigidity and obtain abundant flowering. It is best to dilute the fertilizer in your watering can. The quantity depends on the product purchased. And don’t forget to always remove dead leaves!

This plant is the true star of the show, and if you treat it right, it’s hard to find a more elegant, colorful and eye-catching flower for your daily dose of happiness!
